Mary Elliott

Mary Elliott is a Deputy Director in the City of Chicago’s Office of Compliance.  She manages the Office’s Legal Compliance group which oversees compliance with a variety of federal, state and local laws, including environmental, safety, and healthcare-related issues.

Prior to joining the Office of Compliance, Ms. Elliott served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the City of Chicago’s Department of Law.  She drafted legislation and provided opinions and advice to City departments regarding new federal and state laws.  She assisted City departments in implementing new measures designed to comply with a variety of laws, including HIPAA and Medicare and Medicaid regulations.

While in the Law Department, Ms. Elliott assisted in the creation of a City-wide compliance program, the first of its kind in the country.  The program adopts the best practices of private sector compliance programs and applies those to a municipal setting.  Ms. Elliott has served as a member of the City’s compliance program since August of 2006.

Ms. Elliott earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
