Stephen A. Morreale, D.P.A., CHC
Dr. Morreale is a principal of Compliance and Risk Dynamics in the New England area and a Faculty Mentor with the School of Management and in Health and Human Services at Walden University. He also serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor with Roger Williams University and Worcester State College. He has taught, facilitated, lectured and written on healthcare fraud, drug diversion, management, leadership, decision-making, strategy, ethics and compliance and other topics at colleges and universities, and professional conferences throughout the United States.
Steve serves as a consultant for a Medicare Program Safeguard Contractor. He has trained and consulted for healthcare systems and providers across the U.S., conducted internal inquiries for health professionals, and interviews and assesses potential relators for healthcare lawyers.
Dr. Morreale served in law enforcement for 30 years, recently retiring as Assistant Special Agent in Charge for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Investigations, Inspector General. He also served with the Drug Enforcement Administration, serving as a special agent and manager the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and the Dover, New Hampshire Police Department.
While at HHS-Investigations, Dr. Morreale supervised and coordinated complex and far-reaching investigations focusing on healthcare fraud, which included pharmaceutical fraud, pricing fraud, false reporting, regulatory schemes to defraud various health care programs, grant and research fraud, obstruction of audits, obstruction of justice, PDMA fraud, contractor fraud, provider fraud, conflicts of interest, and substandard quality of care, leading to serious harm or death. Morreale received the Distinguished Service Award from the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and a Recognition Award from the Inspector General for his response and work to the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks.
Steve holds a Bachelors Degree from The University of Massachusetts-Boston, a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University and a Doctor of Public Administration Degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. He received a Certification in Healthcare Compliance from the Health Care Certification Board. His area of research interests focus on leadership and management, strategic planning, healthcare fraud and management and ethics.
Dr. Morreale is an active member of the Health Care Compliance Association, Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics serving as an assistant editor for Compliance and Ethics, American Healthcare Lawyers Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, Academy of Management, American Society of Public Administration and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He has authored many articles in management, healthcare and public administration journals and other publications including Journal of Health Care Compliance.
